CBDV vs CBD?
CBDV and CBD share the cannabidiol core and differ by two carbons on the alkyl side chain: CBD is pentyl (five carbons, C21H30O2), CBDV is propyl (three, C19H26O2). They are separate molecules with separate CAS numbers and separate specifications. CBDV is scarcer because the varin pathway is expressed in few hemp chemovars.

Origin
CBD comes from CBGa via CBDa synthase; CBDV comes from CBGVa — the propyl analogue of CBGa — via the same enzyme. Same machinery, shorter starting material.

Questions
Is CBDV just a weaker CBD?
No. It is a different molecule with its own CAS number. Peregrine does not rank them by effect.
Why is CBDV isolate more expensive than CBD?
Scarcity. Varin cannabinoids are low-abundance in most hemp, so production runs in small campaigns.
Will my HPLC method separate CBDV from CBD?
Not automatically. Ask the lab to demonstrate resolution; CBDV isolate is often bought as the reference for exactly that.
