CBN isolate vs CBN distillate?
CBN isolate is one molecule — cannabinol, CAS 521-35-7 — at a stated purity, ≥99.9% at Peregrine, as a crystalline solid. CBN distillate is the boiled fraction before crystallisation: mostly CBN with other cannabinoids, colour and a profile rather than a purity. If the specification says cannabinol at a percent, it is asking for isolate.
| CBN isolate | CBN distillate | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Cannabinol, CAS 521-35-7, one molecule | Mixed fraction, mostly CBN |
| Spec language | ≥99.9% w/w | A profile, e.g. 70–90% CBN + others |
| Colour / form | White to off-white crystalline | Amber viscous oil |
| Residual Δ9-THC | Below reporting limit on the lot tested — read the COA | Higher risk; lot-dependent |
| Weigh by | Assay | Assay of the CBN line only |
| Peregrine catalog | cbn-isolate | Not offered |
Origin
Both come from THC-line chemistry, because no plant enzyme makes CBN. The distillate stops at distillation; the isolate goes on to crystallisation, which is where minor cannabinoids, colour and residual Δ9-THC are removed.
Established
- Isolate: one named cannabinoid, CAS, single assay, low colour, weighed by assay.
- Distillate: multi-species fraction, profile on the COA, more colour, residual Δ9-THC read closely.
- Peregrine sells the isolate and a water-dispersible CBN powder; it does not sell distillate.
Not yet
- Any effect comparison between the two. Both are ingredients; neither is a claim.
Questions
Which is cheaper, CBN isolate or distillate?
Distillate usually costs less per gram because it skips crystallisation, but you pay in formulation: variable profile, colour and a THC line to manage. Compare cost per milligram of CBN on the COA, not per gram of material.
Does CBN distillate contain THC?
It can carry more residual Δ9-THC than isolate because the fraction is not crystallised. Read the lot COA; destination limits are yours to confirm.
Which should a sleep-category brand specify?
If the label will state a CBN milligram amount, isolate is the simpler route: one assay, one molecule. Peregrine makes no sleep claims for either form.
Does Peregrine sell CBN distillate?
No. CBN isolate (≥99.9%) and water-dispersible CBN powder.
