What is CBN?
CBN (cannabinol) is a fully aromatised cannabinoid that forms as Δ9-THC and THCA oxidise with oxygen, light, heat and time. There is no CBN synthase in the plant, so the CBN level in a sample says more about its age and storage than about the chemovar it came from.

Origin
CBN forms by two chemical routes: THCA decarboxylates to THC and then oxidises, or THCA oxidises first and then decarboxylates. Either way it sits off the enzymatic tree that starts at CBGA.

- Chemical identity and oxidative origin.
- Metabolism involving CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 in human liver preparations.
- Modern oral sleep trials in people exist, although none has produced an approved sleep drug or a primary endpoint Peregrine would cite as a claim.
Not yet
- Approved use as a sleep medicine.
- A polysomnography trial with a positive primary endpoint.
- A tested dose behind the ≤5 mg servings common in retail products.
Questions
Does CBN make you sleepy?
It is marketed that way, and oral CBN has been studied for sleep in people, but the results do not support a claim. Peregrine sells CBN isolate as an ingredient. Sleepz, our finished 7-hour formula, is a separate product still in development.
Is CBN the same as Sleepz?
No. CBN isolate is a wholesale ingredient we sell today. Sleepz is a 7-hour release formula in development and not yet for sale.
Does CBN get you high?
CBN is not Δ9-THC, and its weak receptor activity is not a THC high. A CBN product can still carry trace THC, which is why you read the COA.
