CBG vs CBD: what’s the difference?

CBD is made when CBDA synthase acts on CBGA and heat then decarboxylates the CBDA. CBG is the parent acid itself after decarboxylation, not a CBD analog. They come from the same plant pathway but sit on different branches, have different ring structures and carry different CAS numbers (CBG 25654-31-3, CBD 13956-29-1). CBD has a large human literature; CBG has one acute trial.

Origin

Formulators pick CBD when they need the large public literature and a commodity. They pick CBG when the brief is the mother cannabinoid, a different ring, or a specification that is not CBD.

Established

  • Separate CAS, formula, and biosynthetic step.
  • Both treated as non-intoxicating relative to Δ9-THC.

Not yet

  • A head-to-head human trial of the two.
  • Swapping one isolate for the other in a process without rewriting the specification.

Questions

Is CBG better than CBD?

Neither is better; they are different molecules with different chemistry and different evidence. Buy the one your specification names.

Can I buy both wholesale?

CBG isolate, yes, from 5 g to 100 kg; contact us for pricing. CBD is documented on the learn pages but is not currently one of our wholesale isolates.
