What is THCV?
THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) is the propyl homolog of THC: the same tetrahydrocannabinol skeleton with a three-carbon side chain instead of five. It is not made by shortening THC. The plant runs a parallel line from CBGVA → THCVA → THCV, and in laboratory work its behaviour at CB1 differs from Δ9-THC's.

Origin
The varin precursor CBGVA is converted by the THCA-synthase family to THCVA, and heat yields Δ9-THCV. Nothing converts Δ9-THC into THCV.

Questions
Is THCV just short THC?
No. It comes from a different acid on a parallel pathway and has a shorter side chain. The plant never makes it from THC.
