Do cannabinoid isolates expire?

Cannabinoid isolates do not expire on a fixed date, but they do change. Acid forms (CBGA, CBDA) decarboxylate to their neutrals with heat, light and time. CBC rearranges to CBL under light. THC-line material oxidises toward CBN. Fully aromatised CBN and dry, dark, closed neutral isolates such as CBG change slowly. The practical approach is a retest date: re-run identity and assay against the lot COA after storage, rather than trusting a printed shelf life. Storage condition on the COA is the lot's stability statement.

Which cannabinoid isolates are least and most stable?

Most stable, in practice: CBN, which is already the aromatised oxidation end-product, and dry crystalline neutral isolates stored closed and dark. Least stable: the acid forms, CBGA and CBDA, which lose CO₂ to become CBG and CBD; and CBC, which is thermally sensitive and rearranges to CBL under light. THCV and CBDV behave like their pentyl partners. Water-dispersible powders are stable as chemistry but vulnerable as a form: moisture uptake changes flow and effective assay.

What does degradation look like on a COA?

A rising neutral value on an acid's certificate (CBG on a CBGA lot, CBD on a CBDA lot). A CBL peak appearing on a CBC lot. A falling assay for the named cannabinoid with a corresponding rise in a known partner. Colour change is a visible hint but not a measurement. Compare the retest chromatogram to the release COA for the same lot number.

How do I set a retest date?

Start from the storage condition on the lot COA and your own handling. A closed, dark, ambient neutral isolate can reasonably be retested after a long interval; an acid stored at 2–8 °C and opened often should be retested sooner; any lot exposed to heat, light or humidity should be retested before use. Retest means identity and assay against the release COA — the same two results that gate release at Peregrine.
