How to store cannabinoid isolate

Store neutral cannabinoid isolates — CBG, CBN, CBD, CBC, CBDV, THCV — in the closed food-grade container at ambient temperature, dry and protected from light, unless the lot COA says otherwise. Store acid-form isolates — CBDA and CBGA — at 2–8 °C after receipt, because heat, light and time convert them to their neutral partners. Keep spray-dried water-dispersible powders sealed; they take up moisture. Let cold containers warm before opening, weigh by assay, and open the bulk container as rarely as possible.

How should neutral crystalline isolates be stored?

Ambient, dry and dark. Lots ship as dry crystalline isolate in food-grade bulk containers; appearance, water activity and storage condition are printed on the pack and the COA. The main risks are light and repeated exposure to humid air, not temperature swings within a normal lab range. Keep the lid on between weighings and store away from windows and heat sources.

CBC is the exception on heat: it is thermally more sensitive than CBD and may ship as a viscous fraction. Do not repeatedly warm a solid lot to dispense it — weigh from the container by assay instead.

Why do CBDA and CBGA need 2–8 °C?

Acid-form cannabinoids carry a carboxyl group that leaves as CO₂ under heat, light and time. That decarboxylation turns CBDA into CBD and CBGA into CBG. Refrigeration slows it. The neutral partner's value on the acid's COA is the measure of how far the conversion has already gone, and any heated process step will move it further. Allow the container to reach room temperature before opening so moisture does not condense on the solid.

How should water-dispersible powders be stored?

Sealed, cool and dry. Spray-dried powders are designed to interact with water, which means they also take up moisture from the air — changing flow, dispersion behaviour and the effective assay per gram. Reseal immediately after weighing and keep the bulk container out of humid process areas. Cannabinoid-in-powder assay is on the COA; re-check it if a lot has been open for a long campaign.

How do I handle isolate at the bench?

Weigh by assay, not gross mass, when the COA reports less than 100%. Sub-divide into working aliquots for campaigns that run for weeks so the bulk container is opened rarely. Use amber or opaque secondary containers. Label aliquots with the lot number so they trace to the COA. Cannabinoid isolates dissolve in lipids and ethanol and are practically insoluble in water — plan the carrier before opening the jar.

What about THCV and other isomer-adjacent materials?

Storage is the same as other neutral isolates. The difference is legal, not chemical: THCV requires destination review before shipment, and the buyer is responsible for local rules. Peregrine will not print blending ratios or effect stacks on a storage page.

Does cannabinoid isolate need refrigeration?

Neutral isolates do not by default — ambient, dry and dark. Acid forms (CBDA, CBGA) should be kept at 2–8 °C after receipt.

Can I store CBG isolate in a freezer?

Not necessary. Cold storage adds condensation risk when the container is opened. Follow the lot COA.

How do I stop CBGA turning into CBG?

Keep it cold, dark and closed, and measure the CBG:CBGA ratio after any heated process step. Conversion cannot be fully stopped, only slowed.

Why does my water-dispersible powder clump?

Moisture uptake. Reseal immediately after weighing and store out of humid areas.

Should I weigh by gross mass or by assay?

By assay. A 99.9% lot and a 15% w/w powder deliver very different cannabinoid masses per gram.
