CBGA is the acid the plant makes before anything else — the precursor three synthases branch into the THC, CBD and CBC lines. No approved drug uses it as an active ingredient, and no pharmacopoeia publishes a monograph or reference standard for it. Can I buy CBGA as an API today?
No. An active pharmaceutical ingredient is the component intended to furnish pharmacological activity in a drug product, and the manufacturing obligations that follow from that — GMP under ICH Q7 from the defined starting material, impurities qualified under ICH Q3A, stability under ICH Q1A — only attach once a drug programme exists. None exists for CBGA.
Acid-form cannabinoids make the question harder rather than easier. CBGA decarboxylates to CBG under heat and time, so anything claiming API status for an acid would have to show a stability programme demonstrating that it does not quietly become something else on the shelf. Ask for it.
Where do I buy a CBGA standard?
Not from us, and not from any bulk supplier. Reference materials come from producers accredited under ISO 17034, which is a different badge from the ISO/IEC 17025 a testing laboratory holds. A bulk isolate house normally has neither.
Cayman, Cerilliant, Supelco and LGC carry the acid forms. You are buying milligrams priced as a standard, which has nothing to do with what an ingredient costs by the kilogram.
No USP Reference Standard or Ph. Eur. Chemical Reference Substance exists for CBGA, so a compendial citation is not available to a method that needs one.
What does GMP CBGA actually mean?
Ask which GMP. ICH Q7 is API GMP. 21 CFR 210 and 211 are drug-product GMP. 21 CFR 111 is dietary supplement GMP. ISO 22716 is cosmetics. They are four different regimes with four different scopes, and a certificate against one is not evidence for another.
Nobody issues an API GMP certificate the way a registrar issues an ISO certificate. API GMP is demonstrated by inspection and audit. If a supplier says it is GMP, the useful next question is who inspected the site and when.
What does pharma grade CBGA mean?
It is not a defined term. No regulation fixes it and no monograph exists for CBGA to be measured against. What is real is the specification: the assay, the identity method, the impurity list, and the storage condition. Read those instead.
What does Peregrine ship today?
Research-grade CBGA isolate at ≥99.9%, supplied as an acidic isolate for process chemistry, reference libraries and work that has to begin before decarboxylation. It is heat- and light-sensitive and wants 2–8 °C once it arrives. Volumes run from a 5 g research cut to 100 kg, and the COA for the lot travels with it.

Where do I buy CBGA API?
Nobody sells a CBGA API, and the acid form widens the gap rather than narrowing it. An acid cannabinoid decarboxylates with heat and time, so an API specification for CBGA has to pin down not just purity but the neutral-CBG content at release and the rate it moves over the shelf. No pharmacopoeia has written that monograph.
Peregrine sells the acid as a research-grade isolate today, cold-chain from the lot onward. The API-grade version is harder than the neutral one and is being worked on as such, with the stability question treated as the main problem rather than a footnote.
Who sells bulk CBGA API?
Nobody, under that description. Bulk CBGA itself is available from Peregrine from 5 g to 100 kg, shipped at 2–8 °C with the storage condition on the certificate, because a warm week in transit is the difference between the acid you ordered and a partial conversion you did not.
For a buyer scaling an acid-form process, the question that matters more than the API label is the stability data: how the assay moves at your storage temperature over your intended hold time. Ask for it on the quote and it comes with the material.
Is a sample CBGA API quantity available?
A 5 g research cut is, and for an acid it is the cut worth taking first. Run your own decarboxylation check on it before committing to a volume, because the number that governs an acid programme is not the release assay — it is how far the material drifts between release and use.
Peregrine will send the lot certificate and the storage note with it. If your qualification needs a longer stability read than the standard note covers, ask; the work is being done for the API route anyway.
Who manufactures CBGA API?
No supplier holds API status for it, and the manufacturing question has a specific tell: cold chain. CBGA is the acid, and acids decarboxylate — to CBG, with heat and with time. A supplier who quotes CBGA without raising storage temperature, transit conditions or a retest date has not thought about what happens to your material between their door and yours.
So for CBGA the qualifying question is what leaves their building, and at what temperature. Peregrine ships 5 g to 100 kg at 2–8 °C with the assay on the lot certificate, and will state the decarboxylation behaviour rather than let a buyer discover it in the drum.

If I find CBGA API offered elsewhere, what is actually being sold?
High-purity acidic isolate, in most cases, with a manufacturer's certificate behind it. That is a legitimate product and often the right purchase. It is not an API, because no approved drug uses CBGA as its active ingredient and no pharmacopoeia has published a monograph to specify it against.
Is CBGA an active pharmaceutical ingredient?
Not today. No approved drug uses CBGA as its active ingredient. Peregrine sells it as a research-grade ingredient and is working toward API-grade supply.
Is there a USP standard for CBGA?
No. There is no USP Reference Standard and no European Pharmacopoeia Chemical Reference Substance for CBGA. Certified material comes from commercial reference-material producers.
